Stand Up for Your Rights; Protect Your Community
Demand positive action for your community. Call for the removal of the speed bumps. Ask for bike and walking paths to address safety. Not road obstacles that punish the innocent and generate community anger.
Demand that your rights be protected against self-appointed, unelected special interest groups like the Greater Hansville Area Advisory Council (GHAAC). This group dictates to Kitsap County how your tax dollars should be spent for your neighborhood -- $48,000 for speed bumps for starters. They pretend to be your voice, the voice of Hansville. Did you vote for them? No. Don't let them influence your neighborhood on your behalf.
The best action you can take is to speak out. In our electronic age, you can do that very easily through email. But don't just write. Keep track of when you wrote and follow up. If your email goes, its important to write again and say, "Hey, remember that email I wrote back in October? I'm still waiting for your response!" Be sure to "cc:" others on your communications so that others can be witness to your attempts to hold your government officials accountable. One email is easy to ignore but they can't keep ignoring you. It's your government; you are paying the bill.
Public officials have an obligation to respond to you or they don't deserve your vote. HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE. Clean government and responsive government is everyone's responsibility.
