Nov. 29, 2007 -- The only problem is that the paved shoulder in "downtown" was too narrow for his wheelchair so that he occupied part of the vehicle lane. I've already described the steady use of this area by kids, pets, families, groups and the elderly and my concerns that illegal speeding and passing in the downtown area represents a serious threat to those people and any sense of a "village" that we might create here as the population increases. I don't believe you responded to those concerns
If there very small areas along a main collector that people have built or bought at and they have "Special needs" we need to force them to build side walks in these areas at their cost not ours because they have decided for us that there is not enough of a problem any where else in the greater hansville area to take these measures. We should not have to provide for their wheel chair paths. I don't know of any other area in this county that we allow wheel chairs on two lane collectors?
All persons working here have vans made for wheelchairs for travel on public roads.
At the Hood canal dr. widening meeting the people in Cliffside would not give up any public access in front of their homes for a side walk. Now they want the public road to be their personnel sidewalk.

Nov. 29, 2007 -- "The more I read his email the more it simply looks like 'if you don't agree with me, and if you don't channel yourself through the RSAC and GHAAC, then you can just shut up.' I can't believe it." Wiegenstein said.
This is how I was made to feel when I attended the Hood Canal Dr. road widening meeting at the community Center.
If these bumps allow the average vehicle to safely cross at the posted speed limit we need to get Bauer to drive a newer 3/4 ton 4X4 pickup across these with a scalding cup of coffee placed on the dash above his crotch and see if he wakes up.

Nov. 19, 2007 -- John, I want to thank you for advocating for the rest of us in Hansville. I wonder if the County has thought about the implications of the speed bumps when they are covered with snow and or ice. What will happen to the cars, trucks, propane trucks, trying to navigate the only viable outlet from Hansville? Hopefully they have their vehicles completely under control before the go sliding over those snow and ice covered death traps. Emergency and other vehicles will basically be stopped and stuck, from the speed bumps, at the bottem of the hill. Add darkness to the equation and suddenly they become a serious hazard to all Hansville residents. would hate to see someone be injured ar worse. You are welcome to share these thoughts with others. Nov. 15, 2007 -- I have a question on condition of anonymity: Has anyone in the GHA ridden in an ambulance over those bumps? What is their opinion of their 'improved' health and safety? Just curious. My enquiring mind wants to know...

Nov. 2, 2007 -- The bumps are very painfull on my spine. I require the use of a implanted pump "Medtronic spinal infusion unit" for pain control and the added bumps have not been helpful in my travel requirements. It would have been nice if we could have stopped this earlier.

Oct. 25, 2007 -- I think that everyone should be calling our fire commissioners as well. The assistant chief stated that it would not cause much of a delay in responding. However, I cannot agree with that statement. If you determine the amount of slow down, for fire rescue vehicle, they need to reduce speed to 5 mph in order to not cause problems for the patient let alone the rescue vehicles.
Today I spoke to one of the fire commissioners and expressed my outrage that the assistant chief would even say such a thing.
I urge you to let the readers of your website to contact the fire commissioners and demand that they help to resolve this issue.
The way I see it, there is only two solutions. The first, remove the bumps. The second, put a new road in that does not have bumps. Nothing less will do.

Oct. 29, 2007 -- Argumentum ad Ignorantiam. I suppose the people who proposed the speed bumps were well intended. However I don't believe that there is any real evidence that speed bumps reduce traffic accidents. Even if they did, in the past our traffic accidents have happened on the higher speed parts of the Hansville highway, far from any of the speed bumps. I think they (speed bumps) are only a minor annoyance, but are most likely a waste of money. It seems paradoxical that we spend money to remove pot holes to make the road smoother and then we put in speed bumps to make it rougher.

Oct. 29, 2007 -- Well at least everyone in county government will know who you are and with that name familiarity you could run for office. Preferable against one of the exiting commissioners.I love the response you are getting,
this is good.

Nov. 1, 2007 -- The speed bumps cost $34,000, and they couldn't afford a full time librarian at the new high school...

Nov. 1, 2007 -- I've never heard of speed bumps on a public road. I thought they were reserved for parking lots and schools where children would be in danger. It seems like a drastic solution to a problem which could have been solved in other ways. Thank you and good luck!

Nov. 2, 2007 -- It does seem a bit odd that so much time and money is being put into installing and modifying these ridiculous bumps when the county is in such poor financial condition. Just goes to show you what a special interest group with the right connections can accomplish.....

Nov. 2, 2007 -- Speed Bumps You'd think after an automatic electronic survey on traffic speed was completed that the powers in charge would adjust the speed limit accordingly but then the powers in charge are not of the people by the people and for the people. They are actually a small group of people that I refer to as the over privileged. The group I'm referring to is the waterfront owners on Hood Canal Drive in the Hansville area. Apparently they think that our main access road to the North end is part of their paradise and they shouldn't have to hear tire noise or something. I am just guessing at why they think cars should travel at 30 mph or less down a road that has proved to be safe and comfortable at a minimum of 45 mph by the majority of users. Yes the majority of users proved that, by the electronic survey. But then you probably shouldn't use that finding because the majority of people drive unsafely and have poor judgment right? Oh by the way, there were some of those that were counted as going the posted speed limit that actually slowed because they thought they might be being photographed as they exceeded the posted limit. Now our wonderful county employees, that are occupying office, have authorized bumps in a perfectly good (and new I might add) road. I wonder if there are any other places in the world where roads are made real nice and then screwed up intentionally again with the money of the people that use and pay for them, without their consent.
Another wonderful thing our officials have authorized and put into effect do to harassment by a few individuals in Shorewoods , is a four way stop on Ponderosa Blvd. This situation was put into effect last spring. I travel up and down the road every day and have been keeping real close tabs on how many times I've experienced cross traffic. It has not been very difficult to manage this count without even writing it down. In fact by my calculations I should be able to continue counting on my fingers for a couple years. Yes, I have counted to two times so far. Was that a wise investment of our county tax dollars?
Hansville Highway is another area of questionable judgment by our officials. There has been recent up grades in the highway at some of the intersections. Now speed limits have been lowered. To me, that doesn't make good sense. In fact, when you lower the speed limit by 20%, automatically the number of cars on the highway is increased by 20% thereby creating more congestion. As most could guess though, the congestion itself will also increase that 20% figure just because of the congestion.
I also travel around Poulsbo and have seen similar unreasonable situations there. I wonder why progress is something that gets so distorted.

Nov. 3, 2007 -- Comments : Simply call me Bill. Was referred by other concerned residents to express my personal thoughts. As to the traffic calming, my personal sentiments are as those of you. However, I plan on continuing to express my concerns for animal, as well as pedestrian safety via the ONLY "warning" "alerting" device factory installed on my vehicle. Have been doing my duty as a responsible concerned motorist given the tools in my vehicle while driving our roadways to protect pedestrians and the fragile infrastructure of nature. Because of this, I have evaded many cases of possible pedestrian and animal injury and or death, without being cited. This next excerpt is my response to another concerned resident concerned about discriminant horn honking and receiving a citation and or harassment for abuse of the factory installed device. Another poster, stated "1 honk, ok, 2 or more you will be cited". My question, do our civil servants have new equipment we are not aware of? Yes, we supply them with "radar gun" technology, which is acceptable evidence of "guilt" in the court of law. However, do they now possess a "vehicle horn activation recording" device? Which raises the next question, how can it be proved in the court of law, said vehicles "warning" "alerting" device was improperly used, and or EVEN USED AT ALL? confused!? I know as fact, no manufacturers vehicles OBDll compliant/ "CAN" (04'- present ) systems, nor, body control modules record "horn" activity. With the advent of the presence of recent patrol activity and the "publicity" of the "speed bump" and or so called "calming effect", one could consider ANY citation in this particular area as motorist harassment. "speed bumps" this is the most ludicrous waste of tax payers money I, as many have seen. With the new housing developments in progress, would it not be more proactive to develop our current road system to accommodate the increase in traffic? Instead of increasing the grave possibilities of accident, injury or death on our roadways in our valued community? Am not a wealthy person who has the ability to buy politics, however, could our civil servants be more attentive to the serious issues overlooked. Myself, all in my family that drive, others I have spoken, have had near misses of accidental injury and or death from patrons ( obviously under the influence ) exiting the "casino" on Hansville highway. Personally, I had to nearly take the raw water runoff ditch as an escape to elude certain injury. But apparently that is ok! Would like to see how many are cited leaving said casino driving under the influence. Seems more importance is put on a roads which in the past ( and still are ) manipulated by particular home owners benefits and or money. ok, i am done for now, i still have many more thoughts to share. If interested, just ask. well, my name is bill, thank you for your time.
